About Stainless Steel 446: AISI 446 Stainless Steel is a non-heat-treatable ferritic stainless steel known for its excellent resistance to high-temperature oxidation and corrosion. Despite its lower corrosion resistance compared to austenitic steels, its robust resistance to high-temperature oxidation and corrosion, coupled with the superior toughness of its welding rod, compensates for this limitation. Sicromal 12/X10CrAl24 is welded using conventional methods, SS 446 is a versatile alloy, except for oxyacetylene welding with ASTM A276 type 446 flat bar. Maintaining excellent corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures, it finds common use in furnace parts and boiler baffles, attributed to the exceptional oxidation resistance of AISI 446 Threaded Bar.
Melted as AOD, 1.4762 is a ferritic stainless steel alloy characterized by its non-hardenable nature and excellent corrosion resistance at very high temperatures, along with commendable mechanical properties. Widely employed across various industries such as automotive, chemical, construction, aerospace and thermocouple sensor industries, it serves diverse applications including exhaust systems, recuperators, manifolds, heat exchangers, bellows, oil refinery equipment, furnace parts, and firewalls. As a high chromium ferritic heat-resistant alloy, UNS S44600Bar demonstrates outstanding resistance to oxidation, sulfidation, and other forms of hot corrosion, making it a preferred choice for applications typically operating between 1500-2100°F, despite its relatively low elevated temperature strength.
